Ever since I was a young girl, I had this big dream to study at UNSW. As I grew up, I stuck to my dream, but I had one problem, I did't know what I wanted to study? However, as I was growing up, I discovered I loved making and fixing things. If there was something broken around the house, I would be the first to get my hands on it and fiddle around with it. But I’d never knew I could bring my dream Uni together with my creativity together. During the HSC, my favourite subjects were textile, science, maths and business. But even after finishing my HSC I still did't know what to study. Then my best friend suggested to me why not study Industrial Design? From there I was keen.
Sadly I didn’t make it to my dream uni at UNSW, but I got accepted in Industrial Design at UWS in 2009. From there I learnt that Industrial Design was more than a “design” of a product. Behind every product, there’s a chance that science, marketing, computer programming, workshop modelling and just a lot of time spent on making concepts and choosing the right one was part on making that one product. It was like art but with a challenge. And from there I started to realise that this course had everything I wanted to do; design, science and business.

"Design is a creative activity whose aim is to establish the multi-faceted qualities of objects, processes, services and their systems in whole life cycles. Therefore, design is the central factor of innovative humanisation of technologies and the crucial factor of cultural and economic exchange" - ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design)
A year later I tried applying to a uni closer to home, and got accepted at UNSW. My childhood dream was fulfilled. And from here I set myself a new dream, to graduate with honours, being the best possible designer I can be.
From UNSW I learnt how to purely think like a designer and discovered that people have this passion for it. I slowly came to learn that I may not be as talented as some of my peers, but I know I’m passionate about design. I want to get a career out of design, even if I don’t end up being a designer, I would love to work on the marketing and/or the graphic side to industrial design.
The reason why I want to be a designer and work within the design industry is because Industrial Designers are the future of the world, without us, how would the world advance? We can change the world in so many positive and improving ways, including saving the environment which I’m very passionate about. We make people lives easier by designer product to suit people needs. I'm not in it for the money, like other careers, I just want to leave a positive impact on the world. And the fact that I’m enjoying this course, is a definite that I want to be a designer.
In the future, I want to design something that will blow people’s mind, something unique.

I hope you aim to design not just something mindblowing or unique, but something that would genuinely help people in their needs.
I agree that design is our only hope. However there is nothing wrong with wanting to design purely mind blowing. Im glad that you fulfilled your childhood dream. Good luck!
